BOOK REVIEW Survive the Night by Riley Sager

Riley Sager has proven that he can up the ante with each thriller. Survive the night is an expertly maneuvered set of spurts, spins, curves, and brakes that convinced me that I might not make it through the night without reading the last page.

Sager has a knack for revealing the inner workings of human nature. These characters truly come alive on the page.

Charlie Jordan is a 20-year-old college student who leaves campus after weeks of trying to recover from the loss of her roommate to a serial killer. Charlie’s love for movies has kindled an unusual coping mechanism of slipping into self-invented movies in her mind when she is stressed or fearful. A young man looking to share the expenses of his trip home hooks up with Charlie who is desperate to leave campus. A night like no other unfolds. The action, suspense, and nostalgia of the days of a Grand Am, ride boards, and pay phones are worth this ride. Not to mention the authentic depths of Charlie’s love of classic movies. It only stands to reason that her life mimics a crazy good movie!
