The Scent Keeper is Erica Bauermeister’s heavenly work of art. This story is a unique coming of age journey for Emmeline as she grows up on an island with only her father. She is taught to navigate the world through the wildly complex sense of smell. The author is vastly talented in her compelling descriptions of the many ranges of scents that guide Emmeline through her early development and on to the real world.

Discovering how she fits into the world and who she is once she joins civilization, is a challenge. Taking risks to piece together her identity and figure out her own path are much more difficult than the typical adolescent after her life on the isolated and dangerous island.

The beautiful language and compelling details of our often neglected sense of smell is a refreshing aspect of this novel I believe you will remember long after you finish reading.
