Diane Chamberlain’s Big Lies in a Small Town grabbed me from the first line. She crafts a tale that expertly weaves the past of Anna Dale, an artist in a 1940 North Carolina town with present day Morgan, already living with regrets and secrets of her own. Morgan is cornered into reconstructing the post office mural originally created by Anna Dale during a time lined with prejudicial attitudes that set off pops of action for naive Anna.
As Morgan struggles to restore the huge masterpiece under a strict time-line, she discovers layers of mystery buried within the paint. The unraveling of the past begins to overlap with Morgan’s own clouds of secrets. Will Morgan find out why the deceased artist, Jessie Williams, pinpointed Morgan for this task? Will the disappearance of the talented Anna Dale ever be solved?
I absolutely love a plot that crosses time spans and scatters twists and surprises right up to the final words. Diane Chamberlain’s recipe of uncommon ingredients melts into a delicious dish by the final page. You can’t go wrong with Big Lies in a Small Town.
